GAYLORD, MI - Under pressure from hunters, Michigan game regulators passed on an opportunity to the restore the state’s coyote hunting season during three months of the year when pups are dependent on parents to survive, but they committed to changing some hunting rules in the future that could expand coyote killing.

The governor-appointed Michigan Natural Resources Commission unanimously passed a resolution addressing its intentions to act on hot-button coyote issues in Gaylord on Thursday, Aug. 14.

While the body has not yet modified regulations, the resolution commits to passing rules allowing coyote killing 12 months out of the year on public and private land “through a combination of hunting, trapping and lethal take of nuisance and damaging animals.”
