The National Weather Service in Louisville is urging people to be aware of high temperatures as another heat wave moves into the region.

Starting Aug. 15, heat index values are expected to be more than 100 degrees, peaking at 109 Aug. 18 and Aug. 19. NWS Louisville meteorologist Brian Neudorff said a cold front could arrive late Aug. 20 to lower temperatures for the remainder of the week, but could also bring an increased chance for thunderstorms.

Neudorff said the normal high temperature in Louisville this time of year is about 89 degrees.

“We will be easily five degrees, if not more, above normal going into this weekend,” he said.

Despite the high temperatures, NWS has not yet put out a heat advisory, though Neudorff said it is being considered, especially with events like the Kentuc
