The high pressure dome over New Mexico pushes eastward throughout the day Friday, bringing better chances for rain showers to Denver in the afternoon.

Denver residents can expect a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. It'll be mostly sunny, with a high near 96. Light and variable winds will become southeast between 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.

A red flag warning is in effect again Friday for much of western Colorado (I-25 westward from the Wyoming state line to the New Mexico state line), however, some high based thunderstorms might have enough moisture in them to help suppress for growth today.
