A pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a car early Friday in Sterling Heights, the police department said.

At approximately 5:35 a.m., Sterling Heights police and fire personnel responded to a single-vehicle crash in the area of Canal Road and Delco Boulevard, police said. A preliminary investigation revealed a 2012 Chevrolet SUV was traveling west on Canal when it hit a pedestrian who had entered the roadway.

The pedestrian was transported to a hospital by a Sterling Heights Fire Department ambulance, police said. They are receiving treatment for life-threatening injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, police said. The intersection of Canal and Delco was closed for approximately three hours to conduct the initial investigation.
