During the 15th annual Salmonfest at the Kenai Peninsula Fairgrounds this month, the fifth annual Smoked Salmon Super Bowl was held, celebrating the delicious smoked fish that the festival honors and highlighting small Alaska businesses that work to share the taste of authentic, wild Alaska seafood with the world.

Custom Seafoods of Soldotna was named the overall winner of the competition. Homer’s Coal Point Trading Company and Chugach Wild Salmon/Stickleback Fish Co. also participated and netted the top three wins, with the latter winning the People’s Choice Award and the “Hot Smoked” category.

The competition is a fundraiser for the Ninilchik Food Bank, with an “at-large judge” selected from a pool of attendees who paid $1 for a chance to determine the best smoked fish. The People’s Ch
