PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- Peoria is about to rename a street in honor of long-time dentist, Dr. W. Roscoe McCall.

The honorary ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at the corner of West Columbia Terrace and North North Street, said Peoria Public Works Department spokesman Nick McMillion.

He also said the location of the street naming was chosen since it was near Dr. McCall's former dental office. The family business was first located at 1215 N. North St. until a new building was built at 1225 N. North Street.

That building is now owned and operated by W. Roscoe's youngest son, Christopher McCall, of McCall Law Offices, P.C.

McMillion said Dr. McCall was one of the first African American dentists in Peoria and ran his dental office from 1977 until 2007, near the intersection
