ST. LOUIS COUNTY — An Army veteran and former candidate for state treasurer announced plans on Thursday to run for County Council.

Democrat Mark Osmack, of Des Peres, will run in next year's primary election for council District 3, which includes Fenton, Manchester, and Town and Country. Osmack posted a statement to social media saying he feels a call to public service.

"I'm running to make sure our neighborhoods are safe, our local government is transparent, and our families have the opportunities and support they need to thrive," Osmack said.

Osmack faces an uphill climb in the reliably Republican district. The council seat has been held by the GOP for decades.

Osmack ran unsuccessfully for Missouri treasurer in 2024. He also had plans to run for the 2020 election to Missouri Senat
