FAYETTEVILLE -- The city has added three more locations to its public food waste drop-off program.

The three new collection bins -- at the Fayetteville Public Library, Bryce Davis Park and Veterans Memorial Park -- feature a keypad that allows people to open the top with an access code, which is given through a QR code or a phone number displayed on the bin, according to a news release from the city.

The keypad pins were acquired through a $10,000 grant grant from the Boston Mountain Solid Waste District. Each bin cost $2,130, the release states.

They are the first such food waste collection bins in the state, said Heather Ellzey, environmental educator for the Fayetteville Recycling and Trash Collection Division. If the three pilot bins are successful, the city will explore purchasing
