Chances are if you watched a big live televised event on NBC in the 1970s and 80s, you saw the work of Leonard Basile.

In 1967, the Christian Brothers Academy graduate accepted a position with NBC Sports as a camera operator.

Over the next 30 years, Basile won five Emmy Awards for his work at the 1974 NHL Stanley Cup Final, the 1978, 1986, and 1988 World Series, and Super Bowl XIII.

Those achievements though just scratch the surface of Basile’s legendary career behind the camera lens.

He covered the Summer Olympics at Barcelona in 1992, at Atlanta in 1996, Ryder Cups, U.S. Opens, and the Breeders Cup.

Away from sports, Basile’s credits include “The Today Show,” “The Tonight Show,” “Jeopardy!’ and shows with David Letterman, Phil Donahue, and Conan O’Brien.
