Niagara Health’s planning for its new $3.6 billion hospital in Niagara Falls banked on financial support from local municipalities to help pay costs of building the structure.
But with about three years to go and tens of millions of dollars left to raise to cover the communities’ contribution for the hospital before it opens its doors in 2028, Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati and co-chair of Niagara Health’s fundraising campaign for the project said bringing in the rest of the money isn’t getting easier.
Those efforts are being hampered by municipal budget constraints and concerns about urgent care centres scheduled to close in Port Colborne and Fort Erie, as well as donor fatigue.
