A 71-year-old man was riding an electric bicycle when he struck a vehicle in Casco, Maine, this week, seriously injuring himself.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office says they responded around 11:14 a.m. Tuesday to the crash that occurred on Route 302 at the intersection of Brown Avenue.

Authorities say James Nason, of Sebago, was in the breakdown lane on his bike when he attempted to turn left to cross Route 302, striking the side of a truck that was traveling eastbound.

Nason, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from his bike and was flown by helicopter to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries, officials said. The driver of the truck, identified as 29-year-old David Fields, of Portland, was not inju
