In Toms River, New Jersey, a remarkable collection of guitars valued at $5.5 million included prototype electric guitars and rare harp guitars. “From that point on, I just had this intense interest in older instruments,” shared one collector.

One woman collected hammered aluminum, even knowing it wasn’t the most pleasing to the eye. “It’s ugly stuff, but I like it.You can like things that aren’t pretty.”
