The Broward State Attorney’s Office has dropped the littering charge that led to the arrest of a Miami Police officer over a 2020 citation, officials said Friday.
Officer Guillermo Arteaga, 35, was cited by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on April 21, 2020, for illegally dumping trash near Pembroke Road. The citation offered him the option to pay a fine or appear in court.
Arteaga paid the $25 fine and appeared in court in November 2020, resolving the matter at the time.
Due to pandemic-related delays in the court system, the case was later filed in 2023 by the State Attorney’s Office, leading to a capias being issued for Arteaga, the SAO said in a memo. He was arrested on Tuesday and briefly booked into the Broward County Jail.
