SOLANO COUNTY, Calif. —

A Vacaville man will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars after he killed a woman, then set a fire to cover up his crime, according to the Solano County District Attorney's Office. That fire then spread across hundreds of thousands of acres, killing two others and destroying hundreds of homes.

Victor Serriteno set the Markley Fire on Aug. 18, 2020. That fire eventually spread and merged with the LNU Complex Fire. Combined, those fires burned more than 363,000 acres across Napa, Sonoma, Lake, Solano and Yolo counties. Nearly 1,500 structures were destroyed.

The deaths of longtime Solano County residents Douglas Mai and Leon Bone were the direct result of the Markley Fire, officials said.
