Coweta County’s ongoing debate over data centers will be back in the spotlight Aug. 19, when commissioners hold the second public hearing on new regulations.
The hearing comes amid months of controversy over “Project Sail,” a proposed 4.9-million-square-foot campus on 832 acres of rural conservation land in west Coweta.
Supporters view the project as a potential economic boost, while opponents cite noise, environmental harm and the loss of the county’s rural character, arguing such a massive facility belongs on industrial-zoned land.
The draft ordinance under consideration would limit data centers to industrial zoning, require wider buffers from nearby homes, and impose strict daytime and nighttime noise limits.
A moratorium on new data center applications remains in place until Nov. 3
