The Owen Sound Attack bolstered their defensive corps with the signing of undrafted free agent John Alex Banks this week.

Banks, an 18-year-old defender from Secaucus, New Jersey, spent last season with the BCHL’s Sherwood Park Crusaders.

In 47 games with Sherwood Park, Banks scored seven goals and added 24 assists.

He’s listed at five-foot-nine and 165 pounds.

Banks is committed to the University of Massachusetts (UMass). His enrolment is currently scheduled to begin ahead of the 2026-27 season.

The skilled d-man was the eighth-overall pick in the 2025 USHL Entry Draft by the Sioux City Musketeers.

Banks is a former teammate of Nicolas Sykora, who was drafted and signed by Owen Sound this summer. Sykora and Banks played minor hockey together for a period of time
