ASCENSION PARISH, La. (WAFB) - A Donaldsonville man has been ordered to spend decades behind bars after pleading guilty to a shooting that officials say happened while he was out on bond for another crime.
According to District Attorney Ricky Babin, a judge sentenced Kahlil Howard, 27, to 55 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections for attempted second-degree murder and armed robbery. He was in court for the sentencing on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
He pleaded guilty to those charges in April.
Howard will get credit for time served, but officials say he will not get the benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Howard after a man was shot behind the levee along the Mississippi River on Sept. 8, 2017.
