Cuomo wrote on August 13th that he was the only candidate “who’s passed a bill supported by Bernie Sanders,” highlighting his work on the Excelsior Scholarship.

The post aimed to paint him as a champion of progressive policies, but it quickly drew pushback after the post triggered a tweet from Sanders affirming supporting Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani. Scandal-plagued Cuomo lost the Democratic primary and is running as an independent after refusing to accept defeat.
