MARION COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - An Alabama inmate’s stay of execution will continue pending the completion of a mental health evaluation.
The Marion County Circuit Court had already put David Lee Roberts’ execution on hold on July 10, 2025.
Friday, August 15 a news release from the Alabama Department of Corrections stated a competency evaluation and written report by the Alabama Department of Mental Health won’t be ready by Aug. 21, Lee’s scheduled execution date.
The Department of Corrections understands that the State will not challenge the stay of execution until after the Marion County Circuit Court receives the written report of the competency evaluation.
The Department of Corrections has halted all preparations for Mr. Roberts’ currently scheduled execution. Subject to the stay
