BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Drivers in Trussville frustrated by ongoing construction along Interstate 59 may soon see some relief.
The Alabama Department of Transportation says the southbound off-ramp near the Walmart and YMCA at Exit 141 is about 103 days away from reopening — just in time for Thanksgiving.
Regional Engineer DeJarvis Leonard said the work is aimed at solving a congestion issue that has plagued the area for years. Morning traffic in particular has made merging onto I-59 a challenge for drivers.
“We’re going to add an additional lane in both directions to create three lanes all the way to Chalkville Mountain Road. And doing so should alleviate and create a better level of service for I-59,” Leonard said.
