A Chester man currently serving 18½ to 37 years in a state prison for the 2020 shooting death of 23-year-old Randy Maultsby has asked Common Pleas Court Judge Stephanie Klein to reconsider the length of his incarceration.

Darin Shelton, 36, pleaded “no contest” in March to third-degree murder, conspiracy to third-degree murder and person not to possess a firearm, all first-degree felonies.

Shelton was one of three people charged with Maultsby’s murder of Feb. 22, 2020, in the area of West Seventh and Lamokin streets in the city, and has been in custody since his arrest a week later.

Wrong place, wrong time

Shelton had initially pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in December 2023 and entered a memorandum of agreement with the commonwealth to testify against his co-defendants.
