Wellanders may see a beach on the shores of the recreational canal at Rotary Club of Welland Park next year.
The beach would be near the boat launch and the sand would stop short of the water to prevent it from being drawn into the canal and eroding.
Improvements to the park could also include an expansion of up to 50 parking spots and asphalt paving.
Working with Upper Canada Consultants, the city is also looking at ways to improve drainage, add landscaping and fencing and enhance turnaround and emergency access near the pump station.
Council approved $50,000 for the design of the parking lot and sand area in the 2024 budget, but costs to complete the detailed design will be $85,000, based on the lowest quote received earlier this year. Construction is planned for fall 2026, pending c
