LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. -- A massive investment in downtown Lee's Summit, Missouri is officially opening to the public Friday night.

It's called Green Street and it's Lee's Summit's new gathering space outside City Hall off Southeast 2nd Street and Green Street.

The city began planning to create this space back in 2007, but the scope of the project grew over the years.

They broke ground last winter and on Friday night they will officially open he $44 million investment in the community.

There is an indoor farmers market building that can be used as an event space, a playground, a performance space and lots of seating for families to relax.

City officials hope it encourages more businesses to invest in Lee's Summit.
