Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Friday questioned the deployment of U.S. Armed Forces ships and aircraft in the Caribbean Sea, announced Thursday by the U.S. government.

"On this matter, our opinion will always be the self-determination of the people, not only in the case of Mexico, but in the case of all the countries of the Americas and the Caribbean," the president stated at a press conference, after a journalist asked her if the U.S. had previously informed Mexico about these operations.

In this regard, Sheinbaum clarified that it was the Mexican Navy that informed her cabinet that the U.S. had sent ships into international waters near Panama, that is, between South and Central America.
