ATLANTIC CITY — When Bishop Joseph A. Williams was assigned by the late Pope Francis to be the coadjutor bishop of the Diocese of Camden last year, he didn't know that getting into a boat for the Wedding of the Sea festival was part of the job description.
"As I was driving Thursday night, storm clouds were gathering and I had to ask myself, 'Would they send me out in a storm?'" said Williams, who also officiated a Wedding of the Sea in Wildwood.
Fortunately for Williams, the weather was perfect Friday as thousands descended on the resort for the 57th annual festival celebrating the Assumption of Mary and the relationship between the city and the Atlantic Ocean.
The event was Williams' first in the city as bishop after Dennis J. Sullivan retired in March.
