Following the tragic drowning of a 6-year-old boy at the Birdseye Street Boat Launch, the Stratford community is taking swift action to improve safety at the dock.

Jahseh Martinez fell into the Housatonic River last week while on the dock with his mother. Police say the boy was swept away by the current, prompting a search that lasted more than a day.

His body was recovered two days later, half a mile down the river.

“It felt like I was in a bad movie,” his grandmother Angelique Jones said. “My daughter phoned me frantically and had said my grandson had slipped and fell into the water.”
