BRANDON, Vt. (WCAX) - The man accused in a violent attack in April that left a prominent Vermont chef severely injured has been found incompetent to stand trial.
Jozef Eller was charged with attempted murder after police say he used a large knife to attack his former boss , Cafe Provence owner Robert Barral. The 72-year-old chef says he’s lucky to be alive but fears he could be targeted again.
“He was very enraged. You could see it in his face,” said chef Robert Barral, recounting the moments when he says Jozef Eller came into his restaurant, wielding a hunting knife. “I kicked him, and he dropped his knife and went to pick it up. Later, I grabbed a stool and threw it at his face, then he charged again.”
Barral suffered multiple stab wounds, including to his head.
