TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Alabama Athletics and the university’s police department are set to embark on the annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on campus in Tuscaloosa.

The university’s athletics department says the event, held inside Coleman Coliseum, will be open to the public again for free for the second consecutive year.

The event will begin with a pre-climb ceremony at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, September 11, followed by a closed climb at 8:15 a.m. that will be reserved for first responders. The public climb will begin at 10:30 a.m.

The Memorial Stair Climb honors FDNY, NYPD, Port Authority Police (PAPD), and EMS who selflessly gave their lives in the aid of others on Sept. 11, 2001. The climb consists of 2,200 steps up and 2,200 steps down, equivalent to the 110 floors of the World Tra
