CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Division of Police has named the suspect who is facing charges for the fatal shooting of a man on the city's west side Wednesday afternoon.

Police announced Friday that 49-year-old Sterling Pettway has been charged with murder and felonious assault in the death of 33-year-old Deonte Alexander. Pettway himself was later shot by a Cleveland police officer. He was released from the hospital on Thursday and transferred to the Cuyahoga County Jail.

The officer who shot Pettway was not injured and was placed on paid leave per the department's standard procedure.

According to a release, the Cleveland Division of Police's Second District received a call for "unknown trouble" in the area of West 73rd Street and Clark Avenue at approximately 1:05 p.m.
