TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The Marana father charged in the hot car death of his daughter appeared in court today, August 15.

Chris Scholtes is facing charges of first-degree murder and child abuse in the July 2024 death of his 2-year-old daughter.

At his status conference, the judge asked both sides if they were prepared for the scheduled trial date of October 27th.

The state said it is ready after a plea deal was previously rejected.

The defense said it plans to file a motion to continue the trial.

The defense also stated its intention to ask the court to order a settlement conference. The defense said additional mitigating factors have come up that it wants to be considered.
