Record enrollment, again

Classes begin for University of Tennessee students Monday, Aug. 18, and the university is breaking records yet again this year as it welcomes over 40,000 students this fall semester.

UT received nearly 63,000 first-year applications for the Class of 2029 – a 5.1% increase from last year's record-breaking applicants, according to a release .

At the start of this new school year, UT will welcome more than 7,100 new first-year students, with 60% of them coming from within the state of Tennessee.

The new Class of 2029 is made up of students from all 95 Tennessee counties, 46 states, the D.C. area and 33 countries.

This year, UT expects to meet or exceed its fall retention rate of 91.9% – reflecting the percentage of first-year students return
