Oswego, N.Y. — About 1,700 city of Oswego residents who were under a water advisory for a week can now return to normal water usage.
The southwestern section of the city had been under a conserve and boil water advisory since last Thursday after a water main broke as workers updated pipes. Repairs were delayed until Tuesday because the city was waiting for a replacement pipe.
Oswego residents were forced to boil water because a drop in water pressure from a break can allow untreated water and harmful microbes to enter the supply, officials said. The microbes can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms.
The city officially lifted the advisory at 6 p.m. Thursday.
