COOS BAY, Ore. - Smoke and flames erupted from the North Bend Swing Span Bridge on Friday morning and prompted a swift response from local fire agencies, according to the North Bend Fire Department.
North Bend fire officials said the North Bend Fire Department Marine Unit rushed to the scene on Aug. 15 to tackle the fire at the Coos Bay Rail Line control house. The bridge, crucial for the Coos Bay Rail Line and operated by the Port of Coos Bay, saw white smoke initially reported at 9:50 a.m. Flames were visible by 10:59 a.m., leading the Lakeside Fire Department and other agencies to deploy additional resources, including a fire boat and tugboat.
