A special warrant the Yukon government issued to spend up to $31.7 million in 2025-26 includes authorization to respond to and recover from wildfires, make operations better at the Whitehorse Emergency Shelter and move forward design work on a new convention centre in the Yukon capital.

That includes $15 million taken from the contingency fund and $16.7 million in new funding for this fiscal year across three departments ahead of the next budget bill, according to a Yukon government press release. This tool gives departments the opportunity to spend money in specific areas prior to formally obtaining legislative approval.
