Jeanie McLean, who serves as MLA for the Mountainview riding, education minister and deputy premier in the Yukon government, will not seek re-election.
McLean's intentions were announced in an Aug. 15 statement from the Yukon Liberals.
The statement recounts McLean's career in territorial politics since she was first elected in 2016. She has been deputy premier since 2023. It notes that as education minister McLean supported Indigenous language revitalization, helped establish the Yukon First Nations School board and oversaw new school projects in Whistle Bend and Burwash Landing as well as planning for a new Yukon University science building.
