Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a death warrant for David Pittman, 63, marking what could be the 12th execution this year in Florida.
The warrant schedules Pittman’s execution for September 17 at Florida State Prison, following his conviction for the 1990 murders of his estranged wife’s parents and sister in Polk County.
Pittman was found guilty in 1991 of the May 1990 murders of Clarence and Barbara Knowles and their daughter, Bonnie.
According to court documents, the victims were fatally stabbed before their Mulberry home was set on fire.
A 1994 Florida Supreme Court opinion noted that a medical examiner determined the cause of death for all three victims was “massive bleeding from multiple stab wounds.”
The examiner also testified that Bonnie Knowles’ throat had been cut.
