FALL RIVER, Mass. —

Margaret Duddy called Gabriel House in Fall River home. Her family trusted the assisted living residence to keep her safe. Now they are outraged after 5 Investigates revealed that the sprinkler in the room where the fire started failed to go off.

Ten people died when flames and smoke consumed the building last month.

"It's just outrageous," said Attorney Steven Sabra, who represents Margaret's son James Duddy, responding to 5 Investigates' reporting, which included the revelation that the sprinkler had actually been recalled decades ago.

"To think about the terror this poor woman, who couldn't get out of her apartment on her own," Sabra said. "The suffering that she went through before she passed away is just horrendous."
