AVON, Mass. —
A Massachusetts resident suffered severe burns after a tabletop fire pit explosion, and now fire officials are putting out a warning against using isopropyl alcohol-fueled devices indoors.
Avon Fire said they were called to a home on Thursday after a tabletop fire pit exploded. A resident suffered third-degree burns on their arm, hand and abdomen.
"The type of product in question uses isopropyl alcohol as the fuel, and there have been numerous reports of injuries and fatalities caused by these types of products," Avon Fire said in a statement.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled several of the products and has a consumer alert to stop using devices that burn a liquid such as isopropyl alcohol, as they constitute a fire hazard, Avon Fire said.
