RENTON, Wash. — An elderly Renton man is urging the community to speak up after he was attacked and robbed in his home in what he fears may have been a racially motivated crime.

Truc Nguyen, 76, was returning home from the bank on Aug. 8 when a man followed him into his garage. Nguyen said the attacker was only a few feet away when he confronted him.

“I think maybe I’m going to die,” Nguyen recalled of the moment.

A neighbor’s Ring camera captured video of a silver sedan parking nearby before a tall person exited the vehicle and entered Nguyen’s garage as he was getting out of his car. Once inside, the suspect pepper sprayed Nguyen and struck him in the head with the dispenser, with the suspect not saying anything to Nguyen.
