A new 16,000-seater football stadium in Oxford is one step closer as councillors have granted planning permission.

Oxford United wants to build the stadium on green belt land known as the Triangle which is close to the Kidlington roundabout and Oxford Parkway.

In a lengthy meeting on Thursday evening, Cherwell District Council's planning committee met to decide whether to approve the plans, with attendees hearing those both for and against the proposals.

The club needed to find a new home because their current agreement to play at the Kassam Stadium in Littlemore was due to end in 2026.

A two-year extension is now in place for the club to remain at the Kassam Stadium, giving them time for the transition to the new home.
