(NEXSTAR) — Australian actor Tristan Rogers, best known for his role as Robert Scorpio on daytime soap "General Hospital," has died after a battle with lung cancer. He was 79.

On Friday, Rogers' manager Meryl Soodak confirmed the actor's death to ABC News and other outlets.

In a post on the official "General Hospital" Instagram page, show executive producer Frank Valentini wrote: "The entire General Hospital family is heartbroken to hear of Tristan Rogers’ passing. Tristan has captivated our fans for more than 50 years and Port Charles will not be the same without him (or Robert Scorpio)... Tristan was a one-of-a-kind talent and will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace."
