WHITESBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - Former Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines, who is charged with the murder of District Court Judge Kevin Mullins, appeared in court Friday for a status hearing.
The hearing, held in the same courthouse where the murder was caught on camera, was called to discuss a motion to dismiss the indictment, as well as a motion to set a bond for Stines.
“This is a man with great respect for the law, and he built his life around upholding the law and serving this community,” said Kerri Bartley, one of Stines’ attorneys.
The defense team argued the Commonwealth has not proven that Stines is a danger to himself or anyone if released and he is not a flight risk.
They suggested a $50,000 cash or property bond be set for the former sheriff, with certain conditions established
