CORTLAND, Ohio - An officer was involved in a car crash late Friday evening in Cortland and had to be removed with the jaws of life.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Elm Road and Burnett Drive. According to a firefighter on scene, the officer was en route to a call with his lights and sirens active when he ran through a red light and came into contact with another vehicle.

The officer was not injured, but had to be removed from the vehicle with the jaws of life as his door was stuck shut.

The other driver involved in the accident was an elderly woman who was taken to Saint Elizabeth's hospital out of an "abundance of caution" but was not visibly injured, according to the firefighter.

The accident is still under investigation.
