CLEVELAND, Ohio - Authorities on Friday identified the man killed in a West Side shooting that later led to police confronting the suspect and wounding him.

Deonte Alexander, 38, of Cleveland, was found with a gunshot wound at 1 p.m. Wednesday on the sidewalk near the 2200 block of West 73rd Street, just north of Clark Avenue.

The office of the Cuyahoga County medical examiner released Alexander’s identity. It comes as police continue to investigate the shooting.

After Alexander was wounded, Cleveland police received a description of a suspect. Officers later confronted the person, who had a gun.

Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd said during a Wednesday news conference that officers then shot the suspect, who was later transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
