CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - There’s a lot of turnover in minor league baseball, but there’s one face that’s been a summer staple for the Cedar Rapids Kernels for more than two decades. It’s their bat boy Jon Teig. This weekend the organization will be honoring Jon for his years of service.
Teig is in his 25th year as the Kernels bat boy.
“This is my batting glove. I’m supposed to pick up the bats and balls after the play is over,” he explained at his locker.
He has a system for all of his game day duties.
“This is the water coolers that we take care of and take to the dugout and fill them up with ice," he added.
Working in minor league baseball has its perks.
“Jon has met some players. I mean some players have come through here," his father Bob Teig said.
