A man was fatally shot before sunrise Friday in Moreno Valley and a person of interest was detained.

Deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to the 13000 block of Day Street at approximately 4:05 a.m. Friday regarding reports of an assault with a deadly weapon, where they discovered a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.

The unidentified suspect fled the scene before the arrival of deputies, but was later detained and interviewed after his vehicle was discovered in Moreno Valley about an hour later.

It was unclear if the suspect was eventually arrested and booked on criminal charges, as Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Central Homicide Unit personnel continued investigating the case Friday evening.
