THREE FORKS — A 20-year-old MSU student from Colorado, Anna-Sophia Marie Steigerwald, was fatally struck by a train near Three Forks on Wednesday.

The incident happened shortly after 4 p.m. near the Milwaukee Fishing Access Site and was an accident, according to the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office.

Steigerwald, of Littleton, Colorado, was beginning her junior year at Montana State University and had a clothing line: Soph Sews, according to her obituary.

She is described as a bright, loving and focused young woman whose smile lit up everywhere she went.

“She was a daughter, sister, niece, cousin, granddaughter and dear friend to so many people,” reads the obituary.

Steigerwald graduated from Heritage High School in Littleton, Colorado, where she co-captained the girls volleyball team
