Southern Ohio Congressman Dave Taylor has pushed the long sought plan for a new interstate highway stretching from South Carolina to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula into the news with a House resolution calling for a U.S. Department of Transportation feasibility study.
Northwest Ohio political, business, and transportation leaders have been pushing the proposed I-73 that would use a bypass linking U.S. 23 to I-71 and provide unimpeded highway access to Columbus via U.S. 23 from Toledo for more than 25 years.
It’s obviously a good idea but as always the issue is how to pay for the multibillion-dollar construction project. Rep. Taylor’s resolution requires analysis on the economic development benefits of the proposed new interstate highway.
