CHICO, Calif. - A dangerous strain of E. coli has been detected in Big Chico Creek, prompting ongoing concern among residents and officials. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed the presence of the O-157 strain, which is known to pose significant health risks.

Richard Lopez, a Chico resident, expressed disbelief about the situation.

"I couldn’t believe it like really? Before my accident I used to swim here every day and we never had anything like this happen to the water, when we were younger," Lopez said.

The Butte County Public Health Department is working closely with the CDC to address this safety issue. Public Health Officer Dr. Jarett Beaudoin emphasized the seriousness of the threat.
