The Cubs are tight, and they’re not going to get loose until they win some games, and they won’t win games unless they get loose. That’s some catch, that Catch-22, and thank you, Joseph Heller, for the phrase and concept.

Grizzled veteran Colin Rea took the mound for the Cubs against impressively-named Braxton Ashcraft, who should maybe be wearing a deerstalker cap instead of a baseball chapeau, and did well for himself, giving up an earned run in five innings of work before giving way to the bullpen, who had spotty results. Ryan Brasier continued to indicate that he might be feeling the fork and Daniel Palencia gave up a deep fly to Jack Suwinski, who the Cubs really should acquire and stash in Triple-A or something.
